Western Railway has invited bids for an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract valued at Rs. 18,901.68 crore to construct the Sarkhej-Dholera Semi High-Speed Double Rail Line. This initiative marks a crucial milestone in developing India’s first semi high-speed railway corridor utilizing indigenously developed technology.

Scope of Work

  • Track Systems: Installation of both ballasted and ballastless (BLT) tracks.
  • Electrical Works: Setting up overhead traction systems and general electrical services.
  • Signaling & Communications: Deployment of advanced signaling and telecommunication systems, along with an Operating Control Centre.
  • Final Delivery: Complete system integration, testing, and commissioning.

Strategic Significance & Objectives

  • Route Connectivity: The 134 km double-line corridor connects Sarkhej (Ahmedabad) with Dholera, featuring strategic spur lines connecting to the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) and the upcoming Dholera International Airport.
  • Broader Investment: The project is part of a flagship Ministry of Railways initiative with an overall estimated investment of around ₹20,667 crore.
  • Economic & Regional Impact: Aligned with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the corridor aims to enhance multimodal logistics efficiency, drastically reduce commute times, and drive regional economic growth across Gujarat.
