Dholera set to be World’s largest DATA Centre City
The Grand Vision & Policy Launch
- World’s Largest Data Centre City: The Gujarat government is positioning the greenfield industrial township of Dholera as its flagship destination for hyperscale digital infrastructure.
- The Policy: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi launched the Viksit Gujarat Data Centre Policy 2026-29 in Gandhinagar.
- Focus Areas: The policy is designed to build a comprehensive ecosystem around Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and quantum computing, rather than just data storage facilities.
Capacity & Massive Investor Response
- Surpassing Targets: While the official state policy targets a capacity of 7.5 GW, Dholera alone is expected to develop 7 GW to 8 GW.
- Expressions of Interest (EOIs): 20 companies have already submitted EOIs to establish data centres with a combined proposed capacity of 10.5 GW, significantly exceeding the government’s expectations.
- Major Corporate Backing:
- Reliance Group is expected to develop a data centre campus in Jamnagar.
- Adani Group, Tata Group, and Welspun are among the prominent names likely to anchor massive projects in Dholera.
Infrastructure & Incentives
- Connectivity: Dholera’s development will be supported by an upcoming international airport and a semi-high-speed rail link connecting it directly to Ahmedabad.
- Global Hub: The government also plans to develop the region into a hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs).
