Major Decision: Data Centre HUB tobe built in Dholera SIR, not Gift City, due to Power Security
Major decision due to power security, Dholera becomes a strong alternative with 24×7 power supply. Dholera Data Center.
Since even a 0.01-second power cut can disrupt operations, the Data Center Hub will be built in Dholera, not GIFT City.
This data center will be connected to Dhuvaran’s ‘Cable Landing Station’.
A strategic shift giving a new direction to Gujarat’s digital economy has emerged. Preparations are underway to shift the proposed International Data Center Hub from GIFT City in Gandhinagar to Dholera SIR. This is not just a matter of changing the location, but is considered a new strategy for the state’s digital infrastructure policy, power security, and technology clustering. According to sources, the proposed Tier-4 level high-security data center in GIFT City
Dhuvaran Cable Landing Station will provide super speed.
This data center in Dholera will be connected to the state’s first ‘Cable Landing Station’ being built at Dhuvaran in Anand at a cost of ₹1,317 crores, which will be operational by 2030. The capacity of this submarine cable will be to transfer 20 Terabytes (20,000 GB per second) of data.
Connection with the world with superfast data transfer
Dependence on Mumbai will decrease: Currently, Gujarat’s data traffic routes through Mumbai, now, Gujarat will have its own independent route.
Superfast Data Transfer: Data transfer time will decrease to 150-160 milliseconds. Internet data will reach Singapore, the Gulf, and Europe directly.
Crores of transactions in the stock market: Millions of rupee transactions happening in a split second will become faster and more secure.
Data center cost in the US is 2.5 times higher, pre-planning of the cooling system is most important
The cost of building a data center in America is 2.5 times higher than in India. Compared to America, cheaper electricity, labor, steel, and cement are available in India. Moreover, even if the transformers, cooling systems, and electrical equipment required for a data center belong to multinational companies, they are manufactured in India itself. Instead of thinking about the cooling system for the data center as an afterthought, it is necessary to prioritize it first. It is also important that data centers are cooled naturally. In addition, water is also used excessively. Managing this will also be important for Dholera.
The “Power” Factor, Data centers house thousands of servers that store internet data. If a data center loses power for even a fraction of a second (0.01 seconds), massive amounts of data can be corrupted, and global operations can crash. Dholera SIR has been designed from the ground up as a smart city with extremely robust, dedicated 24×7 power grids, making it a safer bet for a “Tier-4” (the highest reliability rating) data center than GIFT City.
The “Speed” Factor (Dhuvaran Cable), Internet data actually travels through massive cables laid across the ocean floor. Until now, Gujarat’s internet traffic had to route through Mumbai’s landing stations. By building a new landing station at Dhuvaran and connecting it to Dholera, Gujarat gets a direct, incredibly fast pipeline to the global internet (Europe, Gulf, Singapore).
Economic Impact, Â Financial Trading, High-frequency stock market trading relies on milliseconds of advantage. Faster internet speeds directly benefit the financial tech companies operating in Gujarat.
Cost Efficiency, India is positioning itself as a global data center hub because it is vastly cheaper to build and run them here compared to the West.
Dholera is being chosen over GIFT City for the Data Center Hub because it offers better raw infrastructure (uninterruptible power, large-scale water/cooling capacity) and will soon have a direct, high-speed connection to global submarine internet cables
